Women have played an essential role in the functioning of society and the growth of Geneva.
Alongside well-known figures who contributed to the arts and culture, industry and commerce, ideas and science, there are thousands of anonymous and lesser-known women who have also enriched the city and its history.
Let us bring a small selection of these women back to life, exploring their environments and eras, from the 15th century to the present day, while shedding light on the extraordinary diversity of the fruits of their work, talent, and commitment.
We will stroll through the city with a feminine touch, uncovering ordinary and extraordinary stories revealed behind the portraits below!

It was a high-quality visit, which Catherine adapted to the beginners' and intermediate French levels of the participants from a migrant background. Many thanks for her dynamic, pedagogical approach, which we thoroughly enjoyed! (original comment in French)
On International Women’s Day, the fabulous Catherine Hubert Girod led a walking tour of Geneva from a humanitarian woman’s perspective, followed by a networking lunch at a woman-owned establishment.
We are a group of master’s students, many of whom are new to Geneva, and this was a great way to learn about the city and explore real life examples of the topics we are studying. Catherine made a point to tailor the tour towards the specific interests and backgrounds of our group.
